"The best brakes in the class can't fully compensate for the worst suspension, but the Falcon M is fast and light for a 72V bike."
The 79Bike Falcon M is a study in contrasts. On one hand, it has the best brakes we've tested in the entire mid-range electric dirt bike category — and it's not even close. On the other hand, its suspension is the worst. We spent two weeks with the Falcon M on the trails around Gorman, California, trying to reconcile these two extremes.
The first thing you notice when you grab the brake lever is the incredible stopping power. The bite is immediate, the modulation is superb, and the fade resistance is outstanding. On steep, rocky descents where other bikes had us white-knuckling the levers, the Falcon M stopped with authority and precision.
The 72V platform delivers strong acceleration and a competitive top speed of around 55 mph. At just 130 lbs, the Falcon M is remarkably light for a 72V bike, giving it a power-to-weight ratio that rivals more expensive machines. The bike feels fast and eager, pulling hard from a standstill.
This is where the Falcon M stumbles. With only about 24 miles of aggressive riding range, it has one of the shortest legs in the class. For riders who like long, exploratory rides, this is a significant limitation. You'll need to plan your routes carefully or carry a spare battery.
Unfortunately, the suspension is the Falcon M's critical weakness. The stock setup is harsh, under-damped, and prone to harsh top-out on rebound. On rough, rocky terrain, the bike feels unsettled and unpredictable. This is a bike that desperately needs a suspension upgrade to match the quality of its brakes.
The 79Bike Falcon M is for the rider who prioritizes braking performance and lightweight handling above all else, and who is willing to invest in a suspension upgrade. If you ride steep, technical terrain where stopping power is paramount, the Falcon M's brakes alone might be worth the price of admission.
